Governing Board Member Kristie Hammar has announced her plans to resign from the board effective June 10, 2025, due to her family's pending move to Washington state. Mrs. Hammar has served on the board since January 2019. She and her husband Lars have been active members of the Flowing Wells community for 20 years. Their oldest child, Leif (FWHS class of 2018), started kindergarten at Hendricks in 2005, and Mrs. Hammar has been a Hawk Mom ever since, with their youngest child, Tobias, finishing sixth grade at Hendricks this year. Their daughter Abigail graduated from FWHS in 2020, and their son Karl graduated in 2023. Their son Johan currently is wrapping up eighth grade at FWJH. Prior to her time on the board, Mrs. Hammar served on the Hendricks PTO for many years. In addition to being a dedicated member of the board, Mrs. Hammar also took on leadership roles as Clerk and Board President. Throughout her service, she has advocated for special education programs that meet the unique and diverse needs of every child. With her professional experience in counseling and master's degree in the field, accompanied by her perspective as a parent, Mrs. Hammar brought an ethic of care, respect, and balanced problem solving to every decision.
The office of Pima County School Superintendent Dustin Williams has posted the interim governing board position, and applications will be accepted through Friday, July 11, at 5:00 pm. Superintendent Williams and his staff will conduct interviews and will select the interim board member in late July or early August. More information regarding this process and how to apply will be available on the website of the Pima County School Superintendent's Office: https://www.schools.pima.gov/elections.
Although Mrs. Hammar and her family are looking forward to cooler summer days and the opportunity to contribute to their new community in Walla Walla, Washington, they will deeply miss their Flowing Wells connections. The feeling is mutual! We are grateful to Kristie Hammar for her service and leadership and wish her and the Hammar family all the best.
