Welcome to Flowing Wells

Mission-Vision StatementIn 1881, farmers Frank and Warren Allison named their property on Sentinel Peak (commonly known as “A” Mountain) Flowing Wells because of the abundant water on and around the farm. In 1889, the Rillito School District was formed in the area of the Flowing Wells farm and a one-room schoolhouse was built. In 1928, by an error in documentation, the name Rillito School District was omitted from the Arizona School Directory and the name Flowing Wells School District was inserted. Ever since that fateful event, Flowing Wells has defined a tight community in northwest Tucson. The school district now serves 6,000 students in ten, A+ state recognized, neighborhood schools. We welcome you to learn more about this unique district and community.

A Special Thank You to the Flowing Wells Community

On behalf of the Flowing Wells Governing Board and staff, I want to express our sincere appreciation to our community for passing the recent 10% budget override with a 58% "yes" vote. This vote is both historic and extraordinary. It is historic because it represents the eighth time in 20 years that this community has supported an override or building improvement bond package. This is extraordinary because we know the stress this economy has had on finances, and yet this community stepped up and made education a priority.

We will keep our promise to use these funds wisely by keeping class sizes as low as possible, maintaining important programs like full-day kindergarten and tuition-free after-school activities, and attracting and retaining highly qualified, highly skilled, student-centered teachers and staff.

I want to thank all of the parents, staff, and community members who served on the Citizen’s Override Committee. Special recognition goes out to Wendy Effing, President; Paula Alden, Treasurer; and Tim Derrig, Consultant. This was a grass roots effort involving hundreds of volunteers dedicating thousands of hours to our students' future.

As a community we should be very proud that we “Set the Pace for Excellence” with the highest percentage of "yes" votes for all school overrides in the county and one of the highest in the state.

Our District theme this year is FW Rocks and that’s how we Roll. This vote certainly made this theme come alive!

Sincerely,

Dr. Nicholas I. Clement
Superintendent
